V1 – The Lord would strike those who have held us captive with a very strong blow such that even they would be overwhelmed by that kind of power and would let us go.
The Lord saves us from our enemies with his powerful hand. Which enemy can stand in his way? All things, including the devil and his demons, tremble before the Lord. Nothing can stand in the Lord’s way. How precious it is that He is the one who sets us free from the captivity of sin and death and gives us life in Christ Jesus. Only He has the power to do that.
Psalm 136: 11-12 NLT – He brought Israel out of Egypt. His faithful love endures forever.
He acted with a strong hand and powerful arm. His faithful love endures forever.
Anyone who calls on Him and trusts in Him and who does not love his guilty ways but looks up to Jesus for salvation, will be saved.
Psalm 68:19-21 NLT – Praise the Lord; praise God our savior! For each day he carries us in his arms. Our God is a God who saves! The Sovereign Lord rescues us from death. But God will smash the heads of his enemies, crushing the skulls of those who love their guilty ways.
V2-3 – Apart from saving us, The Lord makes our neighbors looks favorably on us and treat us well
The Egyptians always hated and looked down on the Israelites. Part of this was because they were shepherds. Over time, the Israelites had also greatly increased in number and therefore the Egyptians thought they would become too powerful for them and so they made the Israelites slaves.
But in verse 2 and 3, there is a change. The Lord makes the Egyptians look favorably on the Israelites and He made Moses a very great man. It is all the Lord’s doing and the Lord is able to do all this for us as well, if our ways are pleasing to Him.
Proverbs 16:7 NKJV – When a man’s ways please the LORD, He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him.
